The Association organised what will be an annual, Stapleford Golf tournament that was played for on Wednesday 26th September on a fine sunny day at the Forest Golf Club. The course was in superb condition and so was the steak meal and desert that followed. The winners were presented with prizes by association Chairman Eric Eaton. The winner of the Nottinghamshire NUM Ex & Retired Miners Association Stapleford trophy was won by Honorary Association member Martin Lee of Martin Lee and partners solicitors of Mansfield. He went around the course and finished with 34 points, Martin said afterwards its the only thing I have won since being in the team that won the school football league when I was a youngster, the standard that these guys play at, was very good, and the whole day was most enjoyable, the trophy will have pride of place on my desk at work . The trophy was made by a local ex miner who turned the plinth out of a piece of solid Sherwood forest oak, and a miners workman's safety lamp sits on top.
Miners still working in the industry, and non association members played for a cut glass bowl trophy, these were Tim Orme, first with 34 points, second Mark Blacknell with 36 points and Third Ian Bakewell who plays off a five handicap and finished with 32 points.
A big thankyou from the Association to Ron Clurow for his organising of the tournament.

Coming a very close second was Kevin Stapleton with 33 points.

Third was ex Linby miner Tony Tucker Payne who is no stranger to the county golf scene having played at that standard for the last 30 odd years, he said it was great to see old mates again, I am sure the day will grow into something really big in the future.
